Some protection is inherent in the Windows and Mac operating systems, some is inherent in hardware routers and switches, and additional protection is available with user installable antivirus, firewall and secure messaging software. Properly installed, these products provide a high degree of protection; improperly installed you may be left completely unprotected, lose access to the Internet, and be left frustrated by constant prompts for allowing/disallowing actions.
Campus Network Security service ensures the proper installation and configuration of antivirus and firewall tools, UB Virtual Private Network (VPN) software for secure messaging and accessing protected UB online resources, and for configuring your computer to automatically install future system updates from Microsoft and security updates from Symantec. A complete list of these services is listed in the chart below.
If you are adept at configuring computer hardware, operating systems and application software, you can protect your computer with the software available from the UBIT Software Download Site. If you are less acquainted with your computer, we recommend your taking advantage of UBMicro’s services. The adage is still true: “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
